At a glance
Origin Iran, format 505 × 312 cm — a Tabriz made entirely by hand. The covered area is about 15.76 m² (16.6' × 10.2'). Tabriz is one of the oldest and most important weaving centres in Persia.
Construction
The pile is wool, on a warp of cotton. It is entirely hand-knotted. Weight is given as approx. 50 kg.
Format and use
The rug is rectangular. At this size the rug defines the room rather than accenting it.
On the knot count
The stated knot density is under 200,000 knots/m². In the mid range the pattern stays clearly legible without making the rug delicate.
How it reads
It is catalogued under red and orange. With traditionally dyed wool, small variations of tone within one field are normal.
Age and condition
Stated age: contemporary, 0–20 years old. As a contemporary piece the pile is still even and largely unwalked.
