Overview
A Isfahan from Iran, measuring 131 × 87 cm. The covered area is about 1.14 m² (4.3' × 2.9'). Isfahan has stood for exceptionally fine knotting for centuries.
Materials and construction
Stated material: wool. The rug was hand-knotted throughout. Pile height is given as 8 mm.
Where it fits
The rug is rectangular. Small enough to sit in front of a dresser or just inside a door.
Knot density and quality
The stated knot density is 600,000–699,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.
Colour and appearance
Colour is recorded as red and orange. Handmade rugs always show slight colour shifts from knot to knot — that is a mark of hand work, not a defect.
Period
Stated condition: 2000 bis jetzt.
