The piece in short
Origin Iran, format 294 × 199 cm — a Isfahan made entirely by hand. The covered area is about 5.85 m² (9.6' × 6.5'). Isfahan has stood for exceptionally fine knotting for centuries.
What it is made of
The pile is Handgesponnene Wolle, on a warp of cotton. It is entirely hand-knotted. Weight is given as ap. 16 kg.
Where it fits
The rug is rectangular. At this size it anchors a living room as the central surface.
On the knot count
The stated knot density is 700,000–799,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.
How it reads
Colour is recorded as Weiß / beige. With traditionally dyed wool, small variations of tone within one field are normal.
Condition
Stated age: contemporary, 0–20 years old. As a contemporary piece the pile is still even and largely unwalked.
