Overview
A Kashan from Iran, measuring 200 × 130 cm. That is roughly 2.6 m² of floor, about 6.6' × 4.3'.
Construction
Construction: wool, silk in the pile over a cotton foundation. The rug was hand-knotted throughout. Weight is given as ap. 10 kg.
Where it fits
The rug is rectangular. The format suits the space in front of a sofa, a small dining table, or a study.
Fineness of the knotting
The stated knot density is 200,000–299,999 knots/m². In the mid range the pattern stays clearly legible without making the rug delicate.
Colour and appearance
Colour is recorded as red and orange. Depending on the light and the direction you look from, the surface reads lighter or darker — a property of every handmade rug.
Condition
Stated age: antique. In a rug of this age, patina and some pile loss belong to the picture.
