Overview
Hand-knotted in Iran: a Kashan of 425 × 320 cm. It covers approximately 13.6 m², or 13.9' × 10.5'.
Construction
The pile is wool, silk, on a warp of cotton. The rug was hand-knotted throughout. Weight is given as ap. 40 kg.
Format and use
The rug is rectangular. At this size the rug defines the room rather than accenting it.
Fineness of the knotting
The stated knot density is 200,000–299,999 knots/m². In the mid range the pattern stays clearly legible without making the rug delicate.
Colour and appearance
The stated colourway is red and orange. Handmade rugs always show slight colour shifts from knot to knot — that is a mark of hand work, not a defect.
Age
Stated age: antique. As an antique piece, condition should be judged against its age.
