Overview
Origin Iran, format 120 × 74 cm — a Nain made entirely by hand. That is roughly 0.89 m² of floor, about 3.9' × 2.4'. Nain rugs are traditionally finely knotted, with pale ivory and blue palettes.
Materials and construction
Construction: wool in the pile over a cotton foundation. The rug was hand-knotted throughout. Weight is given as approx. 4 kg.
Where it fits
The rug is rectangular. Small enough to sit in front of a dresser or just inside a door.
On the knot count
The stated knot density is 600,000–699,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.
How it reads
Colour is recorded as Weiß / beige. Depending on the light and the direction you look from, the surface reads lighter or darker — a property of every handmade rug.
Condition
Stated age: antique. In a rug of this age, patina and some pile loss belong to the picture.
