The piece in short
A Nain from Iran, measuring 159 × 253 cm. That is roughly 4.02 m² of floor, about 5.2' × 8.3'. Nain rugs are traditionally finely knotted, with pale ivory and blue palettes.
Construction
Stated material: cotton warp, new wool. The rug was hand-knotted throughout. Pile height is given as 10-12mm.
Format and use
Large enough to hold a full seating group.
Fineness of the knotting
The stated knot density is 500,000–599,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.
Colour and appearance
The stated colourway is blue / Türkis. With traditionally dyed wool, small variations of tone within one field are normal.
