Overview
A Nain from Iran, measuring 160 × 238 cm. That is roughly 3.81 m² of floor, about 5.2' × 7.8'. Nain rugs are traditionally finely knotted, with pale ivory and blue palettes.
Materials and construction
Construction: 100% Schurwolle mit Seide in the pile over a 100% cotton foundation. The rug was hand-knotted throughout.
Where it fits
The rug is rectangular. Large enough to hold a full seating group.
Knot density and quality
The stated knot density is 700,000–799,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.
Colour and appearance
Colour is recorded as blue / Türkis. With traditionally dyed wool, small variations of tone within one field are normal.
