Erami Qom silk, “Fiery Sky”, 200 x 310 cm
The larger of the two “Fiery Sky” pieces in this consignment: 200 x 310 cm, 6.20 square metres, hand-knotted in 100% natural silk at 66 Raj by the Erami workshop in Qom.
Two rugs, one drawing
Because a hand-knotted rug is built knot by knot rather than printed, no two examples of a design are identical even when the cartoon is the same. The additional ten centimetres of length here is not a rounding difference but a separate weaving, with its own spacing and its own slight variations in the field. If you are considering both, they are siblings rather than a matched pair.
The weave
At 66 Raj the knot count is dense enough to carry fine floral drawing and graduated colour without visible stepping. Natural silk gives the surface its directional sheen: the pile reads lighter viewed from one end and deeper from the other, which is why silk rugs are usually laid with the light rather than against it.
Placement and care
Six square metres suits a living room or a formal dining setting. Keep it away from prolonged direct sun, vacuum on a low setting with the beater bar off, and turn it periodically so light and footfall land evenly.
