At a glance
A Nain from Iran, measuring 259 × 309 cm. The covered area is about 8 m² (8.5' × 10.1'). Nain rugs are traditionally finely knotted, with pale ivory and blue palettes.
Construction
The pile is 100% new wool, on a warp of 100% cotton. It is entirely hand-knotted.
Where it fits
The rug is square. At this size the rug defines the room rather than accenting it.
On the knot count
The stated knot density is 900,000–999,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.
Colour and appearance
Colour is recorded as blue / Türkis. Handmade rugs always show slight colour shifts from knot to knot — that is a mark of hand work, not a defect.
