The Rose

The rose is the motif the Rahmani workshop is known for, and this is the blue edition of it. Roses are among the hardest flowers to weave convincingly: the form is layered, the petals curl back on themselves, and the whole thing depends on graduated shading rather than outline. That is why they appear on fine looms and rarely on coarse ones – at 70 Raj there are enough knots per centimetre to turn a petal edge smoothly instead of in visible steps.

Seven million knots

7,188,300 knots across six square metres works out at roughly 1.2 million knots per square metre, each one tied by hand and trimmed. The number is not decoration – it is the direct measure of how much resolution the drawing has to work with.

Placement and care

Six square metres is a generous living-room size. Keep silk away from direct, sustained sunlight, vacuum without a beater bar, and rotate the rug once or twice a year.
