ORIGINAL Rahmani Qom silk, “Rose Blue Edition – Special Colourway”, 350 x 250 cm
350 x 250 cm, 8.75 square metres, 70 Raj, 10,471,938 knots, silk on silk. A special colourway of the Rahmani Rose.
What a special colourway means
A workshop that has built a collection around one motif does not change its palette casually. A special colourway means the dye recipes were reworked for a single run – which commits the whole run to that decision, because the piece cannot be re-dyed afterwards. The blue here is the ground the rose was re-drawn for, not the standard palette recoloured.
Ten and a half million knots
Almost 1.2 million knots per square metre, held across nearly nine square metres. At this scale the limiting factor is not the design but the loom: keeping the tension even across a two-and-a-half-metre warp for the years the piece takes is the actual difficulty.
Placement and care
A principal-room size. Keep it away from direct sustained sun, vacuum without a beater bar, and rotate it regularly. Professional cleaning only, and seldom.
