The piece in short
Hand-knotted in Iran: a Nain of 89 × 71 cm. That is roughly 0.63 m² of floor, about 2.9' × 2.3'. Nain rugs are traditionally finely knotted, with pale ivory and blue palettes.
Materials and construction
Construction: wool, silk in the pile over a cotton foundation. The rug was hand-knotted throughout. Weight is given as ap. 2 kg.
Size and placement
The rug is rectangular. At this size it works as an entryway mat or a bedside rug.
On the knot count
The stated knot density is 300,000–399,999 knots/m². Knotting at this density allows detailed drawing and soft transitions between colours.
On the colourway
Colour is recorded as red and orange. Depending on the light and the direction you look from, the surface reads lighter or darker — a property of every handmade rug.
