Overview
This Nain comes from Iran and measures 90 × 60 cm. That is roughly 0.54 m² of floor, about 3' × 2'. Nain rugs are traditionally finely knotted, with pale ivory and blue palettes.
Materials and construction
Pile material is given as wool, silk, warp as cotton. It is entirely hand-knotted. Weight is given as approx. 2 kg.
Size and placement
The rug is rectangular. A small format, at home in a hallway, beside a bed, or in front of a bench.
Fineness of the knotting
The stated knot density is 400,000–499,999 knots/m². Knotting at this density allows detailed drawing and soft transitions between colours.
How it reads
It is catalogued under red and orange. Silk takes light differently from wool, so the same area can look pale from one side and deep from the other.
