The piece in short
Origin Iran, format 144 × 222 cm — a Qom made entirely by hand. The covered area is about 3.2 m² (4.7' × 7.3'). Qom is known for very finely knotted rugs, often in silk.
What it is made of
Stated material: cotton warp, new wool. The rug was hand-knotted throughout. Pile height is given as 10-12mm.
Where it fits
The rug is rectangular. At this size it anchors a living room as the central surface.
On the knot count
The stated knot density is 400,000–499,999 knots/m². At this density even small-scale motifs can be worked out cleanly.
On the colourway
The stated colourway is multicolour. With traditionally dyed wool, small variations of tone within one field are normal.
