Overview
A Qom from Iran, measuring 155 × 107 cm. The covered area is about 1.66 m² (5.1' × 3.5'). Qom is known for very finely knotted rugs, often in silk.
Materials and construction
The pile is wool, on a warp of cotton. The rug was hand-knotted throughout. Weight is given as ap. 6 kg.
Format and use
The rug is rectangular. The format suits the space in front of a sofa, a small dining table, or a study.
On the knot count
The stated knot density is 400,000–499,999 knots/m². At this density even small-scale motifs can be worked out cleanly.
On the colourway
The stated colourway is multicolour. With traditionally dyed wool, small variations of tone within one field are normal.
