A Qom from Iran, measuring 155 × 95 cm. The covered area is about 1.47 m² (5.1' × 3.1'). Qom is known for very finely knotted rugs, often in silk.
Construction
Pile material is given as wool, warp as cotton. The rug was hand-knotted throughout. Weight is given as ap. 5 kg.
Size and placement
The rug is rectangular. The format suits the space in front of a sofa, a small dining table, or a study.
Fineness of the knotting
The stated knot density is 300,000–399,999 knots/m². At this density even small-scale motifs can be worked out cleanly.
How it reads
Colour is recorded as red and orange. With traditionally dyed wool, small variations of tone within one field are normal.
Condition
Stated age: contemporary, 0–20 years old. Being recent, the pile shows little wear and holds its full height.
