At a glance
Origin Iran, format 200 × 140 cm — a Qom made entirely by hand. That is roughly 2.8 m² of floor, about 6.6' × 4.6'. Qom is known for very finely knotted rugs, often in silk.
What it is made of
Pile material is given as wool, warp as wool. It is entirely hand-knotted. Weight is given as approx. 10 kg.
Format and use
The rug is rectangular. A format for a smaller room, or the area directly in front of a sofa.
Fineness of the knotting
The stated knot density is 400,000–499,999 knots/m². At this density even small-scale motifs can be worked out cleanly.
On the colourway
The stated colourway is multicolour. Handmade rugs always show slight colour shifts from knot to knot — that is a mark of hand work, not a defect.
Condition
Stated age: contemporary, 0–20 years old. As a contemporary piece the pile is still even and largely unwalked.
