About this rug
Origin Iran, format 218 × 140 cm — a Qom made entirely by hand. The covered area is about 3.05 m² (7.2' × 4.6'). Qom is known for very finely knotted rugs, often in silk.
Construction
The pile is wool, on a warp of cotton. Construction method: hand-knotted. Weight is given as ap. 8 kg.
Where it fits
The rug is rectangular. At this size it anchors a living room as the central surface.
On the knot count
The stated knot density is 300,000–399,999 knots/m². At this density even small-scale motifs can be worked out cleanly.
On the colourway
It is catalogued under multicolour. Handmade rugs always show slight colour shifts from knot to knot — that is a mark of hand work, not a defect.
Age and condition
Stated age: contemporary, 0–20 years old. As a contemporary piece the pile is still even and largely unwalked.
