Overview
Origin Iran, format 63 × 91 cm — a Qom made entirely by hand. The covered area is about 0.57 m² (2.1' × 3'). Qom is known for very finely knotted rugs, often in silk.
Materials and construction
Pile material is given as 100% silk, warp as 100% silk. It is entirely hand-knotted.
Size and placement
Small enough to sit in front of a dresser or just inside a door.
Fineness of the knotting
The stated knot density is 900,000–999,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.
Colour and appearance
The stated colourway is multicolour. Silk takes light differently from wool, so the same area can look pale from one side and deep from the other.
