Overview
Origin Iran, format 73 × 108 cm — a Qom made entirely by hand. That is roughly 0.79 m² of floor, about 2.4' × 3.5'. Qom is known for very finely knotted rugs, often in silk.
What it is made of
Pile material is given as 100% silk, warp as 100% silk. The rug was hand-knotted throughout.
Format and use
A small format, at home in a hallway, beside a bed, or in front of a bench.
Fineness of the knotting
The stated knot density is 800,000–899,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.
On the colourway
The stated colourway is red and orange. Silk takes light differently from wool, so the same area can look pale from one side and deep from the other.
