The piece in short
This Qom comes from Iran and measures 77 × 300 cm. That is roughly 2.31 m² of floor, about 2.5' × 9.8'. Qom is known for very finely knotted rugs, often in silk.
Construction
Stated material: cotton warp, new wool. The rug was hand-knotted throughout. Pile height is given as 10-12mm.
Size and placement
A format for a smaller room, or the area directly in front of a sofa.
Fineness of the knotting
The stated knot density is 400,000–499,999 knots/m². At this density even small-scale motifs can be worked out cleanly.
How it reads
It is catalogued under multicolour. Handmade rugs always show slight colour shifts from knot to knot — that is a mark of hand work, not a defect.
Age
Stated condition: new.
