At a glance
A Qom from Iran, measuring 84 × 50 cm. The covered area is about 0.42 m² (2.8' × 1.6'). Qom is known for very finely knotted rugs, often in silk.
Construction
The pile is Handgesponnene Wolle, on a warp of cotton. It is entirely hand-knotted. Weight is given as ap. 2 kg.
Where it fits
The rug is rectangular. Small enough to sit in front of a dresser or just inside a door.
Fineness of the knotting
The stated knot density is 300,000–399,999 knots/m². Knotting at this density allows detailed drawing and soft transitions between colours.
On the colourway
Colour is recorded as multicolour. Handmade rugs always show slight colour shifts from knot to knot — that is a mark of hand work, not a defect.
Condition
Stated condition: Neu.
