At a glance
Origin Iran, format 134 × 74 cm — a Shiraz made entirely by hand. It covers approximately 0.99 m², or 4.4' × 2.4'. Shiraz rugs come from a nomadic weaving tradition.
Construction
The pile is wool, on a warp of wool. The rug was hand-knotted throughout. Weight is given as ap. 4 kg.
Format and use
The rug is rectangular. Small enough to sit in front of a dresser or just inside a door.
Knot density and quality
The stated knot density is under 200,000 knots/m². In the mid range the pattern stays clearly legible without making the rug delicate.
How it reads
Colour is recorded as multicolour. Depending on the light and the direction you look from, the surface reads lighter or darker — a property of every handmade rug.
Age
Stated age: contemporary, 0–20 years old. As a contemporary piece the pile is still even and largely unwalked.
