About this rug
Hand-knotted in Turkey: a Hereke of 110 × 68 cm. It covers approximately 0.75 m², or 3.6' × 2.2'.
Materials and construction
Pile material is given as silk, warp as silk. The rug was hand-knotted throughout. Weight is given as ap. 2 kg.
Size and placement
The rug is rectangular. At this size it works as an entryway mat or a bedside rug.
On the knot count
The stated knot density is 500,000–599,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.
On the colourway
It is catalogued under multicolour. Silk takes light differently from wool, so the same area can look pale from one side and deep from the other.
Condition
Stated age: antique. In a rug of this age, patina and some pile loss belong to the picture.
