Overview
Origin Iran, format 61 × 89 cm — a Qom made entirely by hand. It covers approximately 0.54 m², or 2' × 2.9'. Qom is known for very finely knotted rugs, often in silk.
Materials and construction
Stated material: silk, Seidenkette.
Format and use
The rug is rectangular. Small enough to sit in front of a dresser or just inside a door.
Knot density and quality
The stated knot density is 900,000–999,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.
On the colourway
The stated colourway is green / Oliv. Silk takes light differently from wool, so the same area can look pale from one side and deep from the other.
