The piece in short
A Qom from Iran, measuring 83 × 120 cm. That is roughly 1 m² of floor, about 2.7' × 3.9'. Qom is known for very finely knotted rugs, often in silk.
Construction
The pile is 100% silk, on a warp of 100% silk. It is entirely hand-knotted.
Size and placement
Small enough to sit in front of a dresser or just inside a door.
Knot density and quality
The stated knot density is 900,000–999,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.
On the colourway
The stated colourway is red and orange. Depending on the light and the direction you look from, the surface reads lighter or darker — a property of every handmade rug.
