At a glance
A Tabriz from Iran, measuring 100 × 147 cm. The covered area is about 1.47 m² (3.3' × 4.8'). Tabriz is one of the oldest and most important weaving centres in Persia.
What it is made of
Pile material is given as 100% Schurwolle mit Seide, warp as 100% cotton. Construction method: hand-knotted.
Format and use
The rug is rectangular. A format for a smaller room, or the area directly in front of a sofa.
Knot density and quality
The stated knot density is 500,000–599,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.
On the colourway
It is catalogued under Braun / Gelb. Silk takes light differently from wool, so the same area can look pale from one side and deep from the other.
