Overview
Origin Iran, format 145 × 102 cm — a Tabriz made entirely by hand. It covers approximately 1.48 m², or 4.8' × 3.3'. Tabriz is one of the oldest and most important weaving centres in Persia.
What it is made of
Stated material: cotton warp, new wool, silk.
Size and placement
The rug is rectangular. A format for a smaller room, or the area directly in front of a sofa.
Knot density and quality
The stated knot density is 500,000–599,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.
Colour and appearance
It is catalogued under black and grey. Silk takes light differently from wool, so the same area can look pale from one side and deep from the other.
