At a glance
This Tabriz comes from Iran and measures 149 × 218 cm. That is roughly 3.25 m² of floor, about 4.9' × 7.2'. Tabriz is one of the oldest and most important weaving centres in Persia.
Materials and construction
Construction: 100% new wool in the pile over a 100% silk foundation. The rug was hand-knotted throughout.
Size and placement
The rug is rectangular. Large enough to hold a full seating group.
Knot density and quality
The stated knot density is 1,000,000+ knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.
Colour and appearance
The stated colourway is red and orange. Handmade rugs always show slight colour shifts from knot to knot — that is a mark of hand work, not a defect.
