At a glance
Hand-knotted in Iran: a Tabriz of 150 × 203 cm. The covered area is about 3.05 m² (4.9' × 6.7'). Tabriz is one of the oldest and most important weaving centres in Persia.
Materials and construction
The pile is 100% Schurwolle mit Seide, on a warp of 100% silk. The rug was hand-knotted throughout.
Size and placement
The rug is rectangular. At this size it anchors a living room as the central surface.
Knot density and quality
The stated knot density is 700,000–799,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.
Colour and appearance
It is catalogued under multicolour. Handmade rugs always show slight colour shifts from knot to knot — that is a mark of hand work, not a defect.
