Overview
A Tabriz from Iran, measuring 199 × 310 cm. The covered area is about 6.17 m² (6.5' × 10.2'). Tabriz is one of the oldest and most important weaving centres in Persia.
Materials and construction
Construction: 100% Schurwolle mit Seide in the pile over a 100% silk foundation. It is entirely hand-knotted.
Format and use
The rug is rectangular. Large enough to hold a full seating group.
Knot density and quality
The stated knot density is 700,000–799,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.
On the colourway
The stated colourway is multicolour. Silk takes light differently from wool, so the same area can look pale from one side and deep from the other.
