At a glance
This Tabriz comes from Iran and measures 202 × 213 cm. That is roughly 4.3 m² of floor, about 6.6' × 7'. Tabriz is one of the oldest and most important weaving centres in Persia.
Construction
Construction: 100% Schurwolle mit Seide in the pile over a 100% cotton foundation. The rug was hand-knotted throughout.
Format and use
The rug is square. Large enough to hold a full seating group.
On the knot count
The stated knot density is 500,000–599,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.
On the colourway
The stated colourway is black and grey. Handmade rugs always show slight colour shifts from knot to knot — that is a mark of hand work, not a defect.
