The piece in short
Hand-knotted in Iran: a Tabriz of 253 × 350 cm. It covers approximately 8.86 m², or 8.3' × 11.5'. Tabriz is one of the oldest and most important weaving centres in Persia.
Materials and construction
Construction: 100% Schurwolle mit Seide in the pile over a 100% cotton foundation. It is entirely hand-knotted.
Size and placement
The rug is rectangular. A large format for open-plan rooms or formal reception spaces.
On the knot count
The stated knot density is 500,000–599,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.
How it reads
Colour is recorded as red and orange. Silk takes light differently from wool, so the same area can look pale from one side and deep from the other.
