The piece in short
Origin Iran, format 380 × 290 cm — a Tabriz made entirely by hand. That is roughly 11.02 m² of floor, about 12.5' × 9.5'. Tabriz is one of the oldest and most important weaving centres in Persia.
Materials and construction
The pile is wool, on a warp of cotton. Construction method: hand-knotted. Weight is given as ap. 35 kg.
Size and placement
The rug is rectangular. A large format for open-plan rooms or formal reception spaces.
Fineness of the knotting
The stated knot density is 300,000–399,999 knots/m². Knotting at this density allows detailed drawing and soft transitions between colours.
How it reads
Colour is recorded as red and orange. With traditionally dyed wool, small variations of tone within one field are normal.
Age and condition
Stated age: contemporary, 0–20 years old. As a contemporary piece the pile is still even and largely unwalked.
