Overview
Origin Iran, format 64 × 54 cm — a Tabriz made entirely by hand. It covers approximately 0.35 m², or 2.1' × 1.8'. Tabriz is one of the oldest and most important weaving centres in Persia.
Materials and construction
Pile material is given as wool, silk, warp as cotton. It is entirely hand-knotted. Weight is given as ap. 2 kg.
Size and placement
The rug is rectangular. Small enough to sit in front of a dresser or just inside a door.
Knot density and quality
The stated knot density is 500,000–599,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.
Colour and appearance
It is catalogued under multicolour. Depending on the light and the direction you look from, the surface reads lighter or darker — a property of every handmade rug.
Age
Stated age: contemporary, 0–20 years old. Being recent, the pile shows little wear and holds its full height.
