Hand-knotted in Iran: a Tabriz of 67 × 50 cm. It covers approximately 0.34 m², or 2.2' × 1.6'. Tabriz is one of the oldest and most important weaving centres in Persia.

Construction

The pile is wool, silk, on a warp of cotton. It is entirely hand-knotted. Weight is given as ap. 2 kg.

Format and use

The rug is rectangular. Small enough to sit in front of a dresser or just inside a door.

The stated knot density is 400,000–499,999 knots/m². At this density even small-scale motifs can be worked out cleanly.

How it reads

The stated colourway is black and grey. Depending on the light and the direction you look from, the surface reads lighter or darker — a property of every handmade rug.

Age and condition

Stated age: contemporary, 0–20 years old. Being recent, the pile shows little wear and holds its full height.
