About this rug
A Tabriz from Iran, measuring 77 × 120 cm. The covered area is about 0.92 m² (2.5' × 3.9'). Tabriz is one of the oldest and most important weaving centres in Persia.
Materials and construction
Construction: 100% Schurwolle mit Seide in the pile over a 100% cotton foundation. Construction method: hand-knotted.
Format and use
The rug is rectangular. Small enough to sit in front of a dresser or just inside a door.
Knot density and quality
The stated knot density is 500,000–599,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.
How it reads
It is catalogued under blue / Türkis. Silk takes light differently from wool, so the same area can look pale from one side and deep from the other.
