The piece in short

Origin Iran, format 300 × 200 cm — a Tabriz made entirely by hand. The covered area is about 6 m² (9.8' × 6.6'). Tabriz is one of the oldest and most important weaving centres in Persia.

Materials and construction

Stated material: Korkwolle & Seide auf Seide. The rug was hand-knotted throughout.

Format and use

The rug is rectangular. At this size it anchors a living room as the central surface.

Knot density and quality

The stated knot density is 500,000–599,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.

How it reads

It is catalogued under Weiß / beige. Handmade rugs always show slight colour shifts from knot to knot — that is a mark of hand work, not a defect.

Stated age: contemporary, 0–20 years old. Being recent, the pile shows little wear and holds its full height.
