Overview
Origin Iran, format 430 × 100 cm — a Heriz made entirely by hand. The covered area is about 4.3 m² (14.1' × 3.3'). Heriz rugs usually carry a bold, angular central medallion.
Materials and construction
The pile is wool, on a warp of cotton. The rug was hand-knotted throughout. Weight is given as approx. 10 kg.
Where it fits
The rug is rectangular. At this size it anchors a living room as the central surface.
On the knot count
The stated knot density is under 200,000 knots/m². This knot density balances pattern definition against hard-wearing construction.
On the colourway
The stated colourway is red and orange. With traditionally dyed wool, small variations of tone within one field are normal.
Age
Stated age: antique. In a rug of this age, patina and some pile loss belong to the picture.
