The piece in short
Hand-knotted in China: a Isfahan of 246 × 303 cm. It covers approximately 7.45 m², or 8.1' × 9.9'. Isfahan has stood for exceptionally fine knotting for centuries.
Construction
Stated material: cotton warp, new wool. The rug was hand-knotted throughout. Pile height is given as 5-7mm.
Size and placement
The rug is rectangular. A format for large rooms, with space for an entire seating arrangement.
Fineness of the knotting
The stated knot density is 400,000–499,999 knots/m². At this density even small-scale motifs can be worked out cleanly.
How it reads
It is catalogued under red and orange. With traditionally dyed wool, small variations of tone within one field are normal.
