The piece in short
Hand-knotted in Iran: a Kashan of 410 × 300 cm. It covers approximately 12.3 m², or 13.5' × 9.8'.
Construction
The pile is Handgesponnene Wolle, on a warp of cotton. The rug was hand-knotted throughout. Weight is given as ap. 40 kg.
Format and use
The rug is rectangular. At this size the rug defines the room rather than accenting it.
Fineness of the knotting
The stated knot density is 300,000–399,999 knots/m². At this density even small-scale motifs can be worked out cleanly.
How it reads
Colour is recorded as red and orange. With traditionally dyed wool, small variations of tone within one field are normal.
Age and condition
Stated age: contemporary, 0–20 years old. Being recent, the pile shows little wear and holds its full height.
