Overview
Hand-knotted in Iran: a Nain of 163 × 222 cm. It covers approximately 3.62 m², or 5.3' × 7.3'. Nain rugs are traditionally finely knotted, with pale ivory and blue palettes.
Materials and construction
Stated material: cotton warp, new wool. The rug was hand-knotted throughout. Pile height is given as 5-7mm.
Size and placement
At this size it anchors a living room as the central surface.
Fineness of the knotting
The stated knot density is 900,000–999,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.
How it reads
It is catalogued under blue / Türkis. With traditionally dyed wool, small variations of tone within one field are normal.
