About this rug
A Nain from Iran, measuring 305 × 200 cm. The covered area is about 6.1 m² (10' × 6.6'). Nain rugs are traditionally finely knotted, with pale ivory and blue palettes.
Materials and construction
Stated material: cotton warp, new wool. The rug was hand-knotted throughout. Pile height is given as approx. 10 mm. Weight is given as approx. 18 kg.
Size and placement
The rug is rectangular. Large enough to hold a full seating group.
Fineness of the knotting
The stated knot density is 300,000–399,999 knots/m². At this density even small-scale motifs can be worked out cleanly.
On the colourway
Colour is recorded as Weiß / beige. Handmade rugs always show slight colour shifts from knot to knot — that is a mark of hand work, not a defect.
Age and condition
Stated age: contemporary, 0–20 years old. As a contemporary piece the pile is still even and largely unwalked.
