Overview
Origin Iran, format 197 × 138 cm — a Qom made entirely by hand. That is roughly 2.72 m² of floor, about 6.5' × 4.5'. Qom is known for very finely knotted rugs, often in silk.
Materials and construction
The pile is wool, on a warp of cotton. The rug was hand-knotted throughout. Weight is given as ap. 10 kg.
Size and placement
The rug is rectangular. The format suits the space in front of a sofa, a small dining table, or a study.
Knot density and quality
The stated knot density is 400,000–499,999 knots/m². At this density even small-scale motifs can be worked out cleanly.
On the colourway
It is catalogued under Weiß / beige. With traditionally dyed wool, small variations of tone within one field are normal.
