The piece in short
A Isfahan from Iran, measuring 110 × 168 cm. It covers approximately 1.85 m², or 3.6' × 5.5'. Isfahan has stood for exceptionally fine knotting for centuries.
Materials and construction
The pile is 100% Schurwolle mit Seide, on a warp of 100% silk. The rug was hand-knotted throughout.
Format and use
The rug is rectangular. This size typically covers the floor in front of a seating group.
On the knot count
The stated knot density is 800,000–899,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.
On the colourway
The stated colourway is multicolour. Silk takes light differently from wool, so the same area can look pale from one side and deep from the other.
