The piece in short
Origin Iran, format 70 × 107 cm — a Isfahan made entirely by hand. That is roughly 0.75 m² of floor, about 2.3' × 3.5'. Isfahan has stood for exceptionally fine knotting for centuries.
What it is made of
Pile material is given as 100% Schurwolle mit Seide, warp as 100% silk. It is entirely hand-knotted.
Where it fits
The rug is rectangular. Small enough to sit in front of a dresser or just inside a door.
Fineness of the knotting
The stated knot density is 800,000–899,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.
Colour and appearance
It is catalogued under red and orange. Silk takes light differently from wool, so the same area can look pale from one side and deep from the other.
