The piece in short
A Nain from Iran, measuring 145 × 99 cm. It covers approximately 1.44 m², or 4.8' × 3.2'. Nain rugs are traditionally finely knotted, with pale ivory and blue palettes.
What it is made of
Construction: wool, silk in the pile over a cotton foundation. It is entirely hand-knotted. Weight is given as approx. 5 kg.
Where it fits
The rug is rectangular. A format for a smaller room, or the area directly in front of a sofa.
Knot density and quality
The stated knot density is 600,000–699,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.
On the colourway
Colour is recorded as multicolour. With traditionally dyed wool, small variations of tone within one field are normal.
Condition
Stated age: contemporary, 0–20 years old. Being recent, the pile shows little wear and holds its full height.
