The piece in short
A Tabriz from India, measuring 170 × 250 cm. It covers approximately 4.25 m², or 5.6' × 8.2'. Tabriz is one of the oldest and most important weaving centres in Persia.
Materials and construction
Stated material: cotton warp, new wool. Construction method: hand-knotted. Pile height is given as 7-10mm.
Size and placement
The rug is rectangular. At this size it anchors a living room as the central surface.
On the knot count
The stated knot density is 500,000–599,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.
How it reads
The stated colourway is multicolour. With traditionally dyed wool, small variations of tone within one field are normal.
