Overview
A Tabriz from Iran, measuring 118 × 80 cm. It covers approximately 0.94 m², or 3.9' × 2.6'. Tabriz is one of the oldest and most important weaving centres in Persia.
What it is made of
Pile material is given as wool, silk, warp as cotton. The rug was hand-knotted throughout. Weight is given as ap. 2 kg.
Where it fits
The rug is rectangular. A small format, at home in a hallway, beside a bed, or in front of a bench.
On the knot count
The stated knot density is 500,000–599,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.
Colour and appearance
It is catalogued under Braun / Gelb. Handmade rugs always show slight colour shifts from knot to knot — that is a mark of hand work, not a defect.
